Okay, fun stuff aside, let’s get serious and talk about our needs and feelings for a minute.
If you ever happened to take a psychology course in your lifetime, you may recall Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs. It’s a psychological theory stating 5 specific needs that humans require for different levels of motivation.
Motivation. A critical component in the workplace, and life in general.
Enter technology. The digital disrupter of everything…including, yes, motivation.
A 2018 survey conducted by Randstad US studied approximately 3,000 employees, who ranked the most important aspects at work as follows:
- My work computer/laptop/device (75%)
- Fast internet and Wi-Fi (68%)
- My office space/cubicle space (55%)
- Air conditioning and heating (47%)
- My office chair (31%)
- Clean bathrooms (24%)
Fast internet speed vs clean bathrooms. That’s some serious digital disruption there.
So basically, keeping your employees motivated can be as simple as:
- Investing in a strong communication network for speed and accuracy
- Digital resources to help continuously coach/mentor employees to the next level
- Providing teams with tools to enhance their technological skills
- Recognizing success and performance
