Okay, fun stuff aside, let’s get serious and talk about our needs and feelings for a minute.

If you ever happened to take a psychology course in your lifetime, you may recall  Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs. It’s a psychological theory stating 5 specific needs that humans require for different levels of motivation.

Motivation. A critical component in the workplace, and life in general.

Enter technology. The digital disrupter of everything…including, yes, motivation.

A 2018 survey conducted by Randstad US studied approximately 3,000 employees, who ranked the most important aspects at work as follows:

  1. My work computer/laptop/device (75%)
  2. Fast internet and Wi-Fi (68%)
  3. My office space/cubicle space (55%)
  4. Air conditioning and heating (47%)
  5. My office chair (31%)
  6. Clean bathrooms (24%)

Fast internet speed vs clean bathrooms. That’s some serious digital disruption there.

So basically, keeping your employees motivated can be as simple as:

  • Investing in a strong communication network for speed and accuracy
  • Digital resources to help continuously coach/mentor employees to the next level
  • Providing teams with tools to enhance their technological skills
  • Recognizing success and performance

* Disclaimer: this study in no way endorses the notion that you should cancel your restroom cleaning service.
